About James Adams, Sr.

A Patriot of the American Revolution for VIRGINIA. DAR Ancestor # A000542

Possibly due to failing health, Robert Addams wrote his Will in Feb 1738. His estate was left to his wife Mourning, sons James and Robert and daughters Judith Clark, Mary Moreman [Moorman], Eliza Moreman [Moorman], Agnes Farguson [Ferguson], Susanna, Lucy, Anna the younger and Sally.


The last of eleven children born to Captain Robert Sr and Mourning (Lewis) Adams of Henrico Co (now Goochland) VA; James married Cecily Ford in 1751, a daughter of William Ford Sr.

During the Indian Wars, James served in the Virginia Militia Regulars, under the command of John Smith, taking part in the Cherokee Expedition in 1760. From 1771-1773, he served as Justice of the Peace in Albermarle Co VA.



Justice of the Peace, Albemarle Co., VA 1771-1773 Was a militia soldier in John Smith Co., VA of Regulars. Part of the Cherokee Expedition of 1760 until end of that campaign.
