James Broyles was a son of Jacob Broyles and Elizabeth Yowell. James married his first cousin Ellender Eleanor Broyles, daughter of Matthias Broyles and Eva Klug on October 22, 1792 in Greene County, Tennessee (Tennessee State Marriages 1780-2002).James Broyles, his parents, and his wife were all Descendants of the Germanna Second Colony of Virginia of 1717. James and Ellender were the parents of at least ten children:
