James COX (aka ROLT, ROTT) was born c1760

James was convicted of burglary and sentenced to transportation for life. James arrived in Sydney Cove on 26/1/1788 on "Charlotte"

William Bryant [Convict "Charlotte" 1788], William's wife and 2 children + 7 convicts (James Martin [Convict "Charlotte" 1788], James Cox [Convict "Charlotte" 1788], Samuel Bird [Convict "Alexander" 1788], William Allen, Convict “Scarborough” 1790, Nathaniel Lillie, Convict “Scarborough” 1790, William Morton, Convict “Neptune” 1790 & Samuel Broom (aka John Butcher), Convict “Scarborough” 1790) escaped the colony and sailed to Timor

Following recapture, in early 1792 James jumped overboard near the Straits of Sunda. The shore was only 2 miles away but with James being in a weakened state and in handcuffs it is assumed that he drowned before reaching shore.
