James was convicted of stealing and sentenced to 7 transportation. He arrived in Sydney Cove on 26/1/1788 on "Charlotte"
William Bryant [Convict "Charlotte" 1788], William's wife and 2 children + 7 convicts (James Martin [Convict "Charlotte" 1788], James Cox [Convict "Charlotte" 1788], Samuel Bird [Convict "Alexander" 1788], William Allen, Convict “Scarborough” 1790, Nathaniel Lillie, Convict “Scarborough” 1790, William Morton, Convict “Neptune” 1790 & Samuel Broom (aka John Butcher), Convict “Scarborough” 1790) escaped the colony and sailed to Timor
Following recapture, James was returned to England where he was given a pardon on 2/5/1793.
