About James H. Spalding
Son of Benjamin Aaron and Matilda Hager Spalding, was born in Ralls County, Missouri on August 1, 1833. On Jan 21, 1862 he married Eliza Ann Speed at Paris, MO. She was the daughter of James and Lorinda Weatherford Speed. He engaged in farming in Monroe County, MO. He was a non-combatant in the Civil War, although a Southern sympathizer. He was killed in that county by "Bushwackers" on August 4, 1864. No children were born. His widow later married his brother William Evermont "Mack" Spalding.
