On the 1850 census Joseph is listed as a Cooper by trade.

In Robert Thomas McKee's Civil War dairy he mentions of writing and visiting "Aunt Polly" when home of furlough. "Polly" being a nickname for Mary.

Also recorded in the McIndoo family history is where Robert Thomas McKee stated that he went to Greene county where his cousin was.

James McKee it is assumed to have been a farmer in Owen county. He and is wife are buried in the McKee Cemetery southwest of "Gloryville" west of Freedom, Owen, In.

1292 James M. McKee b. 26 Jun. 1792 Kentucky [tombstone states 21 Oct.] d. 9 Sep. 1862 Owen co. In.; m. Mary [-?-].
She was born October 14, 1792, and died September 03, 1866 in Owen County, Indiana.

There is probably a probate or commissioners record for James McKee. There is mention James McKee Estate Probate order Book 3 pg. 192 ?-3?, if there is a will for Joseph it is unknown at this time.

There is also a record of Mary McKee suing her children in regards to land divided among them. But at present I have not obtained them nor if anyone else has them they have not sent copies to me.

Mary [-?-] b. 14 Sep 1792 d. 2 Sep. 1866 . Her will is found in Owen co. In. Will Bk. 2 pg. 216 as follows: I Mary McKee of Franklin twp., Owen county, Indiana do make and publish this my last will and testament. First that my funeral expenses be paid out of the proceeds of my personal property. Second that all just claims against my estate be paid out of the above named fund and what money may be on hand at my decease. Third that my youngest daughter Elvira Coats Landrum be paid one dollar out of the proceeds of my estate which is to be all that the balance of my estate both real and personal after paying the above named bequests be equally divided between my other five children namely Alexander B. McKee that the five last named children of mine, heir all of my estate both real and personal after the above named bequest are paid out of it. Fifth that Joseph H. McKee be and he is hereby appointed my executor to carry this will into effect after my deceased. In witness where of I have hereunto set my hand and seal this ninth day of February 1863 /s/Mary McKee Witnessess: John Johnson Stockton Lundy Filed 13 Sep. 1866

James M. McKee m. Mary [-?-]. Little is know about this man and his family except for the data that is set forth under his name herein on these pages. And this has came about by tracing back the parentage of one son John P. McKee who was a cousin to my [Judith E. (McKee)Burns ], great-grandfather Robert Thomas McKee and this family is mentioned in his Civil war diaries and resulted more as curiosity since my father kept saying 2nd or third cousin about some of John P.’s descendents herein mentioned. I have not been able to spur much interest from the descendants of John P.'s line maybe one day that interest will arise and we will have a more accurate account of them than we do now but until that happens

Some of the cousins made affidavits in civil ear pension papers for each other.

I keep gleaning information from census, court records and obituaries appearing in the Bloomfield News trying to put together a documented lineage that others can work with in the future as well.

The Landrum line is one that one person has worked on and one other son has some descendants partial interested in family history thus slowly bringing the family of Joseph and Mary [?.] McKee together.

On the 1850 census Joseph is listed as a Cooper by trade. Another item that spurs interest in this line is that the pension papers Albert McKee son of Joseph Howe McKee contains an affidavit by Anderson J. McKee quoting himself as second cousin to Albert. The graph below depicts the relationships:

Judi th Elaine McKee -> Alvin R. McKee her father ->james Garfiled McKee his father --> Robert Thomas McKee his father -> Joseph Howe McKee ->his father Robert McKee his father ->James M Mc Kee ->his son ->John P _. his son ->Oliver P - his son -> Raymond O. - His son - Alivn R. McKee 3rd cousins

Albert McKee -> Joseph Howe his father -> Robert McKee his father -> James M his son -> Alexander B. - His son - Anderson J his son = 1st cousins once removed

It has been told that the Raymond did not claim Lowell and Alvin R.(brothers) as cousins claiming that they were of an entirely different McKee family ancestry but all facts so far found and as presented indicates that they are indeed cousins.

In Robert Thomas' Civil War dairy he mentions of writing and visiting "Aunt Polly" when home of furlough. "Polly" being a nickname for Mary .
Also recorded in the McIndoo family history is where Robert Thomas McKee stated that he went to Greene county where his cousin was. J John P. McKee son of james M. McKee has settled in Wahington twp., Greene county before 1872 not far from where great grandfater had bought his property - also John P. McIndoo married Mary McIndoo a sister to RT's first wife Margaret Jane. McIndoo.

James McKee it is assumed to have been a farmer in Owen county. He and is wife are buried in the McKee Cemetery southwest of "Gloryville" west of Freedom, Owen, In.

The following letter from Arthur D. McKee dated 4 May 1948 with letter head of the Spencer Lodge No. 95 F. & A.M. tells the fate of this cemetery and in June McKee's handwriting on the bottom tells more of the woeful fate of the cemetery:

Mr. William Sullivan R.R. Freedom, In.

Dear Sir:

I was down to the Cemetery located on the south West corner of your farm, and noticed that it had been plowed over, Please do not put any crops out on this half acre as it has been turned over to the County commissioners and they are going to fence same in and care for the cemetery. Yours truly, Arthur D. McKee

June McKee wrote not fully legible: This Mr. Sullivan had built a house and used the tombstones in the basement walls; and that Arthur McKee filed charges in the case but never came up and never was fenced in either. The Owen County Indiana Cemetery Book published by the Maj. Adam Owen Chapter of D.A.R. (1983) on pg. 78 states: This graveyard consists of 2 rows of graves with four stones each the stones are rocks from the creek, only three stones are readable: William M. McKee; James McKee; Mary wife of James McKee and one stone: M M K; 2 rows of graves with 6 or 7 stones with no writing.

Owen county Indiana Deeds It is not known if all these James' is the same man and the one in this chapter. The Owen co. In. History states: J. R. McKee came prior to 1840; J. Y. McKee preacher at Gosport; and James McKee lived at Freedom 1833. It's only assumption at this point, the deeds fully listed is that of his wife Mary and validated by the will above listing her executor.
