About James Mudie in Sanday
JAMES MUDIE (aka JAMES MWDY)
James Mudie is the bastard son of Francis Mudie of Melsetter and Kathereine Nicoll. He and his mother are named in the divorce petition dated 22 November 1627 which Marion Tulloch presented to the Archbishop of St. Andrews [Orkney Archives, Orkney Library and Archive, Kirkwall, George W. Reid Collection, reference D20/4/7/2]
It cannot be regarded as being certain but it possible that James Mudie here mentioned is the man of the same name who settled on the island of Sanday. He and his son Edward are noticed on Sanday in 1637. According to J. G. F. Moodie, James Mudie in Sanday was said to be a natural son of Francis Mudie. The Moodie Book, note 3 on page 23
