Biographical Summary

"(295) James Murray, second son of Patrick (No. 278 above), died 30th April 1649, aged seventy-eight. His Will recorded 17th December 1649 (Edinburgh). He acquired the lands of Deuchar, in Forfarshire, 1634. He married Bethia, daughter of William Maule of Glaster, and had issue: -

  • Sir James (No. 296 below).
  • Sir Robert (No. 297 below).
  • Sir Patrick (No. 304 below).
  • William Murray. died young.
  • Alexander Murray. died young.
  • John Murray. died young.
  • David Murray. died young.
  • Gideon Murray.died young."

Origins

(278) Patrick Murray of Falahill, died 1580. He married, third, Elizabeth, daughter of Andrew Sclater and widow of a Mr Ormiston. She died April 1594, leaving a son : (295) James, ancestor of Murray of Deuchar, etc. (No. 295) (see Genealogist, New Series, Vol. XL, p. 2).
