"The Norris Family" is an amazing work in Genealogy, 1500 pages in four volumes. Only three copies were produced, and one is located in the Rare Books Section of the Library of Congress. Another is to be in the Kansas DAR Library at dodge city, Ks.

"born Baltimore county Maryland in 1747/8. He was devised a slave in his father's will in 1761. . He was appointed administrator for the estate of Moses Norris in 1783. He migrated to Mason co., Ky with his brother Aquilla &d his nephew Abraham Norris & others abt 1793. About 1805 Aquilla & James moved to Brown co., Oh. where Aquilla located. Tradition states that James settled near Dayton; no evidence has been discovered to substantiate the tradition. James died at the home of his son, Aquilla, in Butler county, Ohio. Martha moved to Bracken co., Ky where her sons, Joseph & James."

Came to Mason co., Ky. with his brother Aquila in 1793 and later  moved to Brown co., Oh. and about 1805 settled near Dayton."

American Revolution Vet; On payroll of Captain Samuel Reed's Company Roster as of August 9, 1780; rank of private. Was shown in the 1790 Census of Johnston Co, NC as married, having 2 sons over 16, one daughter 16, and 2 sons over 10.
