About Janet Sempill
JANNET SEMPILL
According to "Mr. Crawfoord Historiographer and Antiquarie" Uchter Knox of Ranfurly: "was Allied to a very Noble Family viz Jannet Daughter to the Lord Semple a near Neighbour to the Laird of Ranfurlie." It is sometimes supposed that her father was the first Lord Sempill but Crawfoord did not identify the forename of her father MacFarlane, p. 278 and Jannet Sempill is not noticed in Sir James Balfour Paul's account of the Sempill family. Death
A date and place of death has not been identified for Jannet Semple. She was alive on 30 July 1553, the date upon which the tesstament dative of her deceased husband was registered. She and her daughter Janet Knox were confirmed as executors dative.
