The Ancestry of Uchtred Knox of Ranfurly here treated is disputed. Accoring to the genealogy proposed by "Mr. Crawfoord Historiographer and Antiquarie" Uchtred Knox of Ranfurly here treated is the son and successor of Uchter Knox of Ranfurly and his wife Agnes Lyle. MacFarlane, p. 278 The Reverend Charles Rogers appears to copy Crawfoord, Memoirs, p. 9 but this is disputed by MacKenzie, who identifies John Knox of Ranfurly, sometimes styled John Knox of Ardmanwell. as his successor. Kilbarchan, p. 224 In any event, Uchtred Knox here treated is the same person as Uchtred Knox of Ranfurly
