Spurious Pedigree

The ancestry of Uchtred Knox of Ranfurly here treated is disputed. According to "Mr. Crawfoord Historiographer and Antiquarie" Uchtred Knox of Ranforly here treated is the: "Son and Successor" of Uchtred Knox of Ranfurly and his wife Jannet Sempill. MacFarlane, p. 278 The Reverend Charles Rogers frequently follows Crawfoord but on this occassion he disagrees. Using evidence from the Protocol Register of the Diocese of Glasgow, not noticed by Crawfoord, Rogers identifies this particular Uchtred Knox as the son of John Knox of Ranfurly. Memoirs, p. 10 Mackenzie followed Rogers. Kilbarchan, pp. 224-25
