About Jay Vance Marshall

On Aug. 19, 1922 Vance married Thelma Isham (1904 – Mar. 31, 1924) of Eaton Rapids. Vance and Thelma were married in Eaton Rapids by Rev. John Claflin.

The sad news was received here Saturday of the death of Vance Marshall, aged 22 years, at New Buffalo, Mich. while assisting his father in shipping his breed of cattle to various county fairs. The train to which the car was attached was side tracked at the above place to let a passenger train pass. Vance was standing on the ground talking to his brother Don, who was standing in the car door. At this place the track curved, and as the passenger train came around the curve the engine struck him knocking him 60 feet, death being instant. His brother was an eye witness to this terrible tragedy.

He is survived by a young wife, father and mother, 2 brothers, Paul and Don, a sister, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held from the home of his parents, Tuesday. Rev. Claflin officiating.

Burial was in Woodlawn cemetery.
