About John Bain Larrahona

Though uncle John was born in Argentine as most of his brothers and his sister Mary, he took the Chilean nacionality and proudly exhibited his Diploma certifying it. Moreover, he was a fan of Colo-Colo, the most popular football team within our country. He couldn't resist the team loosing a competence and if so, it was the only time he got crossed.

He was a rugby player and formed several generations of the Prince of Wales Country Club, which at his dead, place a remembrance plaque at their favourite place: the quincho where they ussualy ended their games with a great "asado". He is up to now, remembered 'cause his sense of humor, his fondness to tell funny stories, most of them not appropiated for ladies and I even remember myself as a child of 5, blaming this on him 'cause he didn't respect our character of "ladies" and, after, opening his house's front door and going back to mine with great dignity. He use to mischevously tell my husband, up to when he died "do not let Sylvita let know this".

He was the first proffesional working with explosives in mining explorations and up to now, he is distinguished as being the best. He used to drive to the North mines by his ownself even when he was over his 75 being them placed thousands and thousands miles away from our capital where he lived. He had no children and had a special devotion for his wife, aunt Hilda who save his life by taking care of himself at the Ray Glover Hospital as the chief nurse, when he felt sick of silicosis and nobody believed he could get alive from it. He lived 45 years more.
