http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=160606644
"Came with his parents to America 1639. The date and place of his birth is not known. [...] John Bishop was rated as a "freeman" in 1650. He was a man very positive in his convictions and earnest in the cause of what he deemed right; a man far ahead of his time in matters of religion. He was strongly opposed to the union of church and state, and although positive in his speech and actions, was often called upon to hold offices in the town and seemes to have and to hold the confidence of the majority of the people. He resided in the east part of town now called Madison." taken from the Bishop Genealogy.

Families of Early Guilford, I:76
Inscription: Although this person was likely interred in Guilford's original village cemetery (now the commons and public park in downtown Guilford), no surviving gravestone was known in 1818 when all gravestones at the Village Green, but not the people's remains, were dispersed to other town cemeteries.
Note: Time and weather had erased the location of this grave when the cemetery was moved
