Enlisted as a private in teh Revolutionary WAr Sept 1777 at Romney Co, VA in Cpt William Voss' company, Colonel James Wood's 12th Virginia Regiment. John would have only been 16 years old
Revolutionary War, Sep 11, 1777, John was wounded in the battle of Brandywine Creek, PA, near Chadd's Ford, 59 miles from Philadelphia and just north of Wilmington, Delaware. It was the scene of one of Washington's defeats.
Fought in BAttle of Monmouth, June 28, 1778 at Monmouth Court House, Freehold, New Jersey - between the Americans under General Washington adn the British under Gen Henry Clinton.
Fought in Battle of Stoney Point, New York, July 19, 1779. Stony Point is on the west bank of the Hudson River, 35 miles north of New York.
Yorktown, Pennsylvania 1780.
He served three years and was honorably discharged at Yorktown by Colonel Morgan.
Appointed a Deputy Surveyor, along with Benjamin Stansberry, William McBrayer, James Brown and Isaac Hite.
Bounty Land - dec 6, 1784 , Hampshire Co, VA?
Warrant # 3556.
Issued to John Bray for 100 acres of land for 3 years service. His brother-in-law Peter DeWitt received Warrant #3555 on the same day.

I John Bray of the County of Switzerland and State of Indiana, being weak in body but of perfect sound mind and memory do publish this my last will and TEstament, revocking all former Wills. In manner and form following, that is to say first of all that my Just debts be paid. I further will that all hte Land that I hold deeds for shoudl be SOld. And that the money be laid out for Other land for the support of my family and my beloved wife Elizabeth Bray to have the benefit of the land as long as She remains my widow. Then I will and bequesth all hte land to my Son George Bray. And my wife to have the benefits there of untill she dies or marries. And I further willand bequesth to my three older Sons, namely John Bray, Daniel Bray and Samuel Bray. EAch of them one Dollar. I further will adn bequesth to my three oldest Girls namely Jane Ray, Elizabeth Cotton and Nancy Culver Each of them One Dollar. I further will and bequeath to my three younger girls namely Pelina Amealy and Sophia Bray. Each of them one bed adn bedding I further will that so much of my stock be Sold as will pay my Debts and funeral Expenses. ANd lastly I appoint my friend John Pavy to be my Executor. Given under my hand and seal this 14th day of May AD 1832.
