ohn Kitchell was the son of Joseph and Rachel (Bates). He married Abigail Parkhurst in 1778. During the Revolutionary War, he served as a private in Captain Obadiah Kitchell's Company of Morris County (NJ) militia. Obadiah was his cousin. After the war he was an attorney in Hamilton County, Ohio.
