Sarah (Kitchell) Lindsley was a daughter Hon. Joseph Kitchell, Esq. and Rachel Bates. Her brother, Aaron Kitchell, served as a Representative and a Senator from New Jersey. Her father, Joseph Kitchell (1710-1779), born in Newark, was a son of Abraham Kitchell and Sarah Bruen. Rachel Bates (1714-1789), a daughter of Thomas and Abigail Bates, was born in Elizabethtown, Essex Co., NJ. She married Benjamin Linsdley, Esq., Sr. on 16 Feb 1758, with whom she was blessed by the births of ten children.

From "Who's Who in the Graveyard, Presbyterian Church in Morristown" we find -- Lindsley, Benjamin--24/35--b. 22 Feb 1731, d. 8 Nov 1815. (Ed. Note: CR135; (Combined Registers 1742-1889, Appendix) 311, & 313 show m. Sarah Kitchell, Daughter of Joseph Kitchell, 15 Jan 1759. CR135 Benjamin & Sarah are shown parents of nine i.e., Rachel, Joseph, Jonathan, Hannah, Jane, Mary, Timothy, Elizabeth, and Latta "Letty" [also Benjamin see Appendix CR314: show the following from a family Bible, "He was a justice of the peace in Morristown 10 years, and then resigned; served as quarter-master under General Washington in the time of the war; and was Trustee of the Parish for 30 years. He had ten children..."

1. Rachel Lindsley was born 28 Nov 1758, and died 18 Jun 1793. She married (1) Francis McCarty; (2) Stephen Conklin, Jr. 7 May 1778 in Morristown, son of Stephen Conklin, Sr. and Deborah Dimon.

2. Joseph Lindsley was born 1 Apr 1761 in Morristown, and died 13 Jun 1822. He married Sarah Lindsley 8 May 1783 in Morristown, daughter of John Lindsley III and Sarah Raynor. She was born 6 Sep 1762 in Morristown, and died 1 Feb 1784 in Morris Twp. He married Phoebe Rodgers 26 Mar 1786 in Morristown, daughter of John Rodgers and Hannah Mack. She was born 23 May 1761 in Morristown.

3. Jonathan Lindsley was born 26 Dec 1762 in Morris Twp. He married (1) Jemima Stiles 7 Apr 1785 in Morristown, daughter of Ebenezer Stiles, Sr. She died 9 Jul 1800 in Morris Twp. He married (2) Hannah Rodgers 10 Apr 1803 in Morristown, daughter of John Rodgers and Hannah Mack.

4. Hannah Lindsley was born 26 Mar 1765 in Morris Twp. She married (1) Samuel Beers; (2) William Burnett 7 Feb 1787 in Morristown.

5. Jane Lindsley was born 15 Sep 1768 in Morristown and died 29 Apr 1861 in Morris Twp. She married Silas Lindsley 22 Jul 1790, son of John Lindsley III and Sarah Raynor. He died 17 Jan 1845.

6. Mary Lindsley was born 6 Feb 1771 in Morris Twp. and died 14 Jan 1823 in same. She married John Bates 5 Jan 1795 in Morristown.

7. Timothy Lindsley was born 13 Aug 1773 in Morris Twp., and died 30 Jun 1777 in same.

8. Elizabeth Lindsley was born 5 Sep 1775 in Morris Twp., and died 1 Jun 1858. She married (1) Jonathan W. Shaw 9 Nov 1800 in Morristown; (2) married Cola Lemuel Cobb 8 Aug 1819 in Morristown. He was born 15 May 1762 in Parsippany, and died 1 Apr 1831 in Morris Co.

9. Latta Lindsley was born 18 Jan 1778 in Morris Twp. and died 19 May 1835 in Morris Co. She married Micah Hawkins 11 Oct 1801 in Morristown.

10. Hon. Lieutenant, Benjamin Lindsley, Jr. was born c1780 in Morris Twp. and died 20 Aug 1843 in Montville Twp., Medina Co., Ohio. He was a veteran of the War of 1812, his name appearing on the Roll of Capt Samuel Halliday's Morris Rangers: "Lieutenant Benjamin Lindsley Jr.," which company was in the service of the US from the 1st of Sep to the 2nd of Dec 1814. "Late in 1818 or early in 1819, Benjamin Lindsley received the contract for the construction of a two-story rectangular brick court house with cupola at the southwest corner of Liberty and Court streets" in Medina Ohio..." In 1836, Benjamin was appointed as a Medina County Associate Judge to fill out the unexpired term of Reuben Smith, but the General Assembly, in 1837, elected Philo Welton Judge, so that Judge Lindsley was only present at two terms of court. Benjamin was thrice married, and fathered nine children. He married (1) Hannah Condit 20 Sep 1810 in Hanover, Morris Co., New Jersey; (2) Elizabeth Eastman 6 Feb 1825 in Medina Co., Ohio [Marriage Rec. Vol. A, p31]; (3) Mrs. Clenna C. Thomas (Betsey C.
