Hannes, as he was called, was the first son and second child or eleven children born to John "Hannas" (also known as "Indian John") Miller, Sr. and Magdalena Lehman. His father had only been in America for about three years. At the time of the Indian troubles, he would have been only about three years old. After the French and Indian War, he and his two brothers, Peter and Jacob, helped to clear land for farming. He married Freny Yoder, the daughter of Christian G. Yoder and Barbara Y. Beiler, also of the Northkill community. John Miller, Jr. came to Somerset Co., about 1775 with his parents as a young married man. John and Freny had eleven children:

Yost Daniel David Catherine Miller Hochstetler Jacob John III Elizabeth Isaac Emanuel Solomon Elias

The last two children died single. The children who raised families all married into families with Amish-Mennonite names, nine in all. Four married Yoders, three married Troyer's, one married a Hochstetler, two married Beachy's, and one married a Gnagey. Some of course, were second or even third marriages. It was unusual that all of them moved to Ohio and stayed with the Amish-Mennonite Church. Hannes Jr., and Freny had ninety-seven grandchildren who raised families. When John Miller Jr. died, his farm was sold to Abraham Miller, son of his brother Peter. There are no remaining stones marking the graves of Hannes, Jr., and wife Freny, but it is almost certain that they are buried there, according to family custom.

Their suggestion:

On the rootsweb site it shows that John had a son Joseph A Miller b. 19 Mar 1780. I don't see him on your memorial. Do you know if this is correct info or not? Joseph had a son Samuel R Miller. From Samuel on down I am sure of my info, but before him I am not so sure. Thank you Bob Fletcher.
