Location of farm

Bucks County tax records indicate that John lived in Northampton township, the last record of this being in 1789 when we see a split entry between what he was to pay and what his estate was to pay. This suggests that he died that year.

John Roberts of Northampton in Bucks County Tax records

  • John is in the following Northampton township Tax records
    • 1779 tax assessment
    • 1781
    • 1783 = Pennsylvania, Tax and Exoneration, 1768-1801 for John Roberts (90 some acres)

    • 1789 (see timeline) = his death occurred that year ?
  • John was born before the 1750s, maybe well before • birthdate unknown: but as he died c. 1789 we might assume that he may have been too old to serve in the Revolution. This opens the possibility that he had a SON named John, a John Jr. who we see in the rolls of Northampton... It could be either way... Look at Rosters of units serving in the Revolution ~• 'Roberts' appears 16 times. A few are repeats, but there is only one John Roberts of Northampton listed Be careful not to confuse with John Roberts of Warwick.

Discussion

  1. We know that if James Roberts is his son then James' age is at least 25 in 1790... but, we don't see a James in Northampton area in the 1790 census. Is he married yet? His oldest known Caroline was born c. 1791 (Caroline Bothwell)
  2. One John Roberts served in some capacity in the Revolution. How does he fit in to the family structure?
  3. Who is Mrs. John Roberts?
  4. I've been helped by SEPAfran@aol.com Fran Waite

May be John Roberts of Southampton who died in 1789
