Source: booklet: "Waterson Reunion 15-16 May 1993" . John Waterson and Mary Edith Sayer grew up in the Carterton district. After marriage they moved several times between Taranaki and Apiti. In 1920 they bought the 900 acre farm in Omana. With their youngest son Ken who was 10 years old they travelled by train from Apiti to Helensville where they embarked on the good ship "Ruawai" captained by Alf Sellars. On arrival at Dargaville they stayed the night at Brady's Boarding House and left next day by the boat "Omana" for Pukehuia. They then walked the final 5 miles to the farm. Over the ensuing years several members of the family came to help out. Keith and Ella, Barney and Clare, Mac, and Alec McLauchlan.
