Biography

Joseph Hoxsey was born 15 Mar. 1667 at Sandwich, Barnstable, Massachusetts, son of Lodowick Hoxie and Mary Presbury.[1] He married Sarah Tucker about 1694 in Massachusetts.[1] He died in 1727.[1]

He was admitted as townsman at Sandwich, Massachusetts on 15 June 1694. He and his brother John moved to Rhode Island in about 1697. He settled in what is now the dividing line between Charlestown and South Kingstown. John settled in the part of Westerly that is now Richmond.[1]

Will

Joseph's will was dated Westerly, RI, 30th- 6-mo- 1726. It was probated on 26 June 1727.[10] It named wife Sarah, eldest son Joseph, second son Gideon, daughter Mary to whom he gave his slave Hannah, sons Lodowick and Zebulon, and daughter Ann.[1] His inventory was taken on 20 June 1727.[10]
