About Joseph Redick McKee

Great-Grandpa Joseph McKee who was born to James McKee (a son of a Revolution soldier who came to Ohio from Pennsylvania) was in the War of 1812. His mother Sarah Mathers came from Ireland to Pennsylvania. Grandpa McKee was born in Hamilton Co., Ohio, August 3rd, 1820, and died April 4,1912; age 91 years, 8 mo and 1 day at Summerfield, Kansas. At the age of 15, he moved with his parents to Ripley Co., Indiana, was married to Mary Clark at her home in Indiana in 1842. Moved from Indiana to Crawford., Illinois in 1873 then to Pawnee Co., Nebraska in 1880. When very young, he joined the Baptist Church and was a faithful Christian as long as he lived. He had sharp black eyes, black with gray curly hair and beard. He was honest, upright, and hot tempered.

He didn't have much education, but people said you couldn't cheat him, had a pretty good business head, and was fairly well fixed for those times. He got childish with children. I remember telling Mother, I didn't like her grandpa as well as mine. - Written by Eda Manley LaComb daughter of Belle Manley
