Funeral Held For Harrell Chapel Farmer Recently

HARREL CHAPEL, Dec. 29 - Funeral services for Joe Oakley, a former resident of this community were held recently in the First Baptist Church in Memphis by Rev. Fern A. Miller.

Oakley, 73, had been in ill health for a number of years. He had farmed near here for many years. He was born in DeKalb County, Texas [sic], March 13, 1880, and was married to Miss Bertie Gammage at Mangum, Okla., February 19, 1901.

Interment was in the Fairview Cemetery by the Murphy-Spicer Funeral Home.

Survivors are his widow, three daughters, Mrs. Tom Collins and Mrs. Lester Graham of Memphis, and Mrs. Estelle West of Greenville; four sons, Richard and Irvin Oakley, Amarillo; Jim Oakley of Memphis and Vernon Oaklay [sic] of Lindsey, Calif.

Two brothers, of Orange Cove, Calif., 26 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Connie Hartsell, Clyde Collins, Leon Parks, J.R. Mitchell Jr., Ernest Lee Kilgore and O.S. Callahan.
