Notes

The Virginia Genealogist Volume 4, 1960, page 108 September 17 - To Joseph Waugh's funeral and home (5 days).

[Joseph Waugh, Gent., died at his plantation "Belle Plane," Potomac Creek, 4 September 1747. He was the eldest son of Joseph Waugh and Rachel Gowry his wife, and eldest grandson of the Rev. John Waugh (1630--1706), and consequently a first cousin of Mercer's wife Catherine Mason. Joseph Waugh married Million Traverse; both died testate in Stafford County.]

mm: there is some confusion on this marriage. Although I deter to John Frederick Dorman's work, I disagree and with the above statement published in the Virginia Genealogist Vol 4, and believe it was a d/o of John & Rachel Gowry that married Joseph Waugh d. 1747 as demonstrated in the following 1722 Stafford Co. VA record, Witness Rachel Gowry is the widow of John Gowry and Joseph Waugh is the s-i-l who married Rachel Gowry d/o John and Rachel Gowry. It should also be noted that Joseph d. 1727 1st wife was named Rachel.
