Son of Abraham Gingrich and Mary Neff, husband of Eliza Levagood. Josiah served in the US Army during the Civil War, having enlisted when he was living in San Pierre, Indiana. After the war, he returned to Michigan where he farmed in Washington Township, near Carsonville.
Josiah died of uremic failure.
