Levy, Julia (1826–1914)
Mrs. Julia Levy, one of the best known of Sydney ladies, died suddenly in her residence, Cahors, Macleay-street, Potts Point, Sydney, in her 89th year. She arrived in Sydney with her parents in the ship Brittomarte in 1835, when she was nine years old. She married the late Mr. Lewis Levy, M.L.C., in 1844, and of the children 13 grew to adult age. Of these 10 survive her, those residing in Sydney being Messrs. Harry Levy and Septimus R. Levy, and Mrs. George J. Cohen and Mrs. Burnett Cohen. The others live in London. The deceased lady was renowned for her great charity, which embraced all creeds and classes. Up to September 4 last she was engaged making socks and shirts for the soldiers, and she retained all her faculties to the last.
