Karen Sofie Laugen

Karen Sofie Laugen nee Andersdatter was born Karen Soffia Andersdatter on July 22 1823 on Øen in Ørland parish (now municipality), Sør-Trøndelag county, Norway. She was the daughter of Anders Johansen and his wife Andrea Pedersdatter. Karen Sofie was christened on October 5 1823 in the church of Ørland. Her Christian confirmation was on October 14 1838 in the chuch of Ørland.

Karen Sofie married Knut Laugen (whose earlier Christian given name, patronym, and family name were Knud Olsen Grut (or Grudt)) on May 4 1848 in the church of Ørland. The groomsmen at their wedding were Erik Arntsen Vik and Andreas Hansen Ryggen.

In 1865 Knud Olsen Grudt and his wife Karen Sofia Andersdatter lived at Sommarbakken (Literal English translation: Summer Hill) in the 1st census district in Nærøy, with their children Adolph; Hanna Oline/Olava; Christianna Henriette and Claudie Sofie Grudt.

Knud Olsen Grudt was a tenant farmer (Nor.: Husmann med jord) and carpenter. They had a livestock consisting of one cow, four sheep, and four goats.

Knud Olsen and Karen Sofie Andersdatter Laugen moved away from Naeroy on the date of May 8 1871, together with their children Adolf; Ole Andreas; Hanna Oline; Kristiane Henriette; Claudia Sofie, and Margrethe Kristine Laugen. To emigrate to 'Amerika' (here: the United States of America).

They emigrated to the USA on the steam boat or ship "Tasso" on May 24 1871. Their destination goal was Prescott, USA.
