About Lancelot Graham Harris

- His family appear to have lived in London from around 1903 (see father's profile), at 21 Alexandra Road, Finsbury Park (now South Totthenham, London N15).
- 1911 Census - at an "institution" (boarding school) in Denstone parish, Uttoxeter, Staffs, aged 16: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XW7N-VDF. This was Denstone College, originally St. Chad's http://www.denstonecollege.org/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denstone_College, where under Rev. F.A. Hibbert, he was 6th form Prefect, and shot for the school at Bisley.
- He spent 3 months in Berlin in the summer of 1913 studying German.
- He was elected to a £30 Exhibition (i.e. financial award based on merit, similar to a scholarship) for History in Dec. 1912, and admitted to Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidney_Sussex_College,_Cambridge) and sat the HIstory College Exams in 1914, obtaining a II:2. From his first year he lived in the college residence Hall Court.
- He enlisted in August 1914 as a Private with the Honourable Artillery Company (Reg. No. 1112) and went on active service on 19 September 1914 with the 1st Battalion. He was in the trenches all through the winter.
- He was killed in action near Ypres, Flanders, on 28 April 1915. His obituary (in the Sidney Sussex College Annual, 1915, p.39), said that he "Died of wounds from shell fire... The Chaplain who was with him in his last moments, and afterwards buried him, was the Rev. H. Marshall of this College."
