Biography
From Palmer Families in America, Volume 1.1, Samuel Palmer of Greenwich 1733-1825 compiled by Michael E. Palmer 2011
Levi was in the Revolutionary War from Greenwich in 1778 under CaptainFitch and Col. Waterbury. He was also under Captain Samuel Haight and Colonel Pierre Van Cortlandt in the 3rd Regiment of the Westchester County Militia. He began receiving a pension in 1832 until his death,$40 every three months, for his service in the Revolution. Thereafter, his wife received $20 every six months (March and September) until her death. He received 640 acres in Ohio on account of his Revolutionary service.
On 7/3/1787 his father deeded to "my son" Levi Palmer of Greenwich 20 acres in the Stanwich Society of Greenwich. He was in the 1790 censusfor Greenwich with one male over 16 besides himself, one male under 16 and two females. On 3/19/1799 Levi deeded 100 acres in Milton, Cayuga County, New York to Jonathan Palmer, both being of Greenwich. On 9/24/1812 Samuel deeded to his sons Nathaniel and Levi land in Greenwich. - PFIA Levi moved to Cayuga County, New York, in 1821 the Bell Town section of the Town of Genoa. The farmhouse, which still stands is located on county rd. 32, the Atwater Road. He was one of the original deacons of the Congregational Church of Lansing and Genoa. His will is dated July 14, 1836, probated February 22, 1837 in which he mentions his wife Sarah and children and names his sons Elial and Albert executors. The administration of William Rundle of Greenwich mentions his daughter Sarah Palmer wife of Levi. Levi and his wife were originally buried in what is now an abandoned, completely unkempt, and nearly destroyed cemetery, referred to as the "Burying grounds across from Maplewood Cemetery." It is said that thebodies were reburied in the new Maplewood cemetery in the 1860's but the original stones, very few in one piece, remain. This original cemetery, which I visited in 2005, is in the back of a farm field, surrounded by stand of trees. The farm itself is surrounded by an electric fence. Yes, I caught a shocking jolt coming and going! One of the few stones still standing is that of Levi's wife, Sarah. Levi's stone, like many others, is broken into many pieces caused by farm animals that roam freely. I was able to push the pieces of his stone together.
