John Lanier born 1680 Charles City County VA married Elizabeth Byrd their second son, Lemuel B. 1729 His son, Lewis B. 1753 was a coronet in the Revolutionary War. Listed in the Vouchers of Revolutionary Soldiers of North Carolina from the Wilmington District. Lewis's son was John Lanier B. 1778, who married Nancy Fitzpatrick, daughter of William Fitzpatrick, a Revolutionary War soldier as well. John's 13th child, Calvin McCullough B. 1837, married Delanie Burnside. They are the parents of Florence Cornelia Lanier. Burnsides were loyalists. They were the largest slave owners in Bulloch county in 1820. Many were in the Civil War. Delanie was given a female slave when she married, to take to her new home..........

Lewis, a Cornet in the Revolution, listed in the Vouchers of Revolutionary Soldiers of North Carolina from the Wilmington District, Voucher 1047, 24 March 1782, L 32-11-0. Lewis Lanier was drowned in the Ogeechee River when returning from a visit to his brother; it is said that he was caught in a
flash flood. His widow, Margaret, made application 16 August 1794 for Letters of Administration "of Lewis Lanier late of then Effingham, now Screven". (Minutes of Screven Co., Georgia and Georgia Gazette, 28 August 1794, page 2, col 1).
