About Lionel Joseph Guindon

Lionel "Jerry" Joseph Guindon, 81

Lionel J. Guindon, age 81, affectionately known by many as Jerry, passed away at home July 8, 2014 in Lebanon, PA. After battling and winning two previous fights against bladder cancer in 1986 and 2006, the third attack in November 2013 ultimately claimed him to his heavenly home.
Born in Gladstone, Michigan on September 15, 1932, Lionel grew up on the family farm. Upon high school graduation, he joined the Army and served in the Korean War where he earned his nickname Jerry. It was at a USO dance that he met and later married his first wife Patricia L. (Wentling) Guindon of Lebanon, PA who preceded him in death, 1991. Jerry has lived in Lebanon since that time.
Jerry was a friend to all. Even strangers on the street were greeted with a smile and a nod. If he knew you, you were greeted with a bear hug, a larger than life grin, and a genuinely gleeful giggle. He was a giver, always putting the other person ahead of himself. If you had a need and he could provide, you would receive all you needed and more - the reason was irrelevant. He enjoyed building projects and woodworking. You could hear his whistle at 100 yards, his laughter from a mile away, and he always had a joke to share or a song to sing. Anyone who ever camped near Jerry awoke to "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" being sung at the top of his lungs. He was an avid outdoorsman and nature lover. His backyard and gardens were his pride and joy. Even the bluebirds of Lebanon County are having a sad day.
Jerry is survived by his widow Elizabeth M. after sharing 22 years of marriage. He is also survived by: sisters - Bertha Blevins, 77, of Orange Park, FL, and twins Helen Menard, 75, of Willow Brook, IL and Evelyn Cass, 75, of Cornell, MI; children - Keith A. (Deb) Guindon of Houston, TX, Thea M. (Raymond) Blouch of Annville, PA, David M. (Linda) Guindon of Chemung, NY, Kathryn Y. Guindon of Ellenton, FL; stepchildren - Susanne E. Wile of Houston, TX, James A. (Susanne) Wile of Strasburg, PA, Deborah A. (Dale) Granger of Lebanon, PA, John D. (Kim) Wile of Jonestown, PA; grandchildren - Megan (Guindon) Couden, Amy (Guindon) Beazzo, Jason Blouch, Erin Guindon, Ashley Guindon, Stephanie (Blouch) Hartz, Stephen Blouch, Andrew Blouch, and Amanda Blouch; plus 6 step-grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Oniseme "James" Guindon, 1969, and Yvonne "Eva" (Brunette) Guindon, 1983; two brothers - Hector and Leonard; five sisters - Prudence VanMill, Jeanette Swift, Marie Hill, Rita Comet, Agnes McCombs; and granddaughter Andrea Jo Guindon, 24, who passed July 1, 2014.
Funeral Mass Monday morning 11 AM at St. Mary's Church, 2 N. 8th St., Lebanon, PA 17046. Interment at Covenant/Greenwood Ebenezer Cemetery with full military honors. Viewing hours Monday morning from 10-11 at the church. Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with the arrangements.
