Lieut. George Sanford, son of John and Abigail (Pitts), born in 1724, lived to the good old age of ninety-six years. He was an officer in the French war, serving under General Wolfe at the capture of Quebec. He married Mary (or Mercy) Phillips (1727-1793).

George Sanford, Sen. "was in 1756 a lieutenant in the army of British General Lord Loudon, and marched against the French at Crown Point and Ticonderoga. This was the "French War" which resulted in the conquest of Canada by the British and American forces. Lieutenant Sanford was the youngest child of John Sanford and his wife Abigail, daughter of Samuel Pitts.
