About Lt. William Avery

William Avery and Anne Richardson. William Avery was baptized on June 19, 1692 at The First Church of New London. He died on February 8, 1755 (62 years old). William was first married on March 27, 1715 at Stonington to Anne Richardson, daughter of Samuel and Ann Chesebrough Richardson. Anne Richardson was born on November 12, 1688, at Stonington and died July 5, 1729.

William married again on June 3, 1731 at Stonington to Sarah Walker, the daughter of William and Eleanor (Pendelton) Walker. She was born @1709 and lived many years after the death of William on October 1, 1727.

Sergeant William Avery was chosen Lieutenant by the people of Stonington (Conn. Military Archives, Doc.368) November, 1720. William Avery was appointed by the general court to give notice to the qualified voters of Stonington to meet and choose their clerk and men to manage their society or parish. The next year, October, 1721, he was one of the committee to collect the taxes.

William Avery was buried in the Old Plain burying-ground, in North Stonington, his tombstone is still standing.



Third son of John Avery ; born about 1687. Married Anna Richardson, March 7, 1715 ; by her he had four children. He married a second wife, Sarah (or Abigail) Walker, June 3, 1731 ; by her he had ten children.
