Second wife (married in 1868) of Richard J. Harris. At the time of the 1880 Census, Mr. and Mrs. Harris were living in Raleigh, N.C. According to the UNC-Chapel Hill alumni records and U.S. Census records, her husband Richard J. Harris lived in Washington, D.C. and that is where Lucy H. Jones Harris died in 1899. Her husband was still living in 1910, as shown by the Census of that year for Washington, D.C. The account of the death of Richard J. Harris from the Raleigh News and Observer issue of February 26, 1916 indicates that their only surviving child is Bettie Harris of Washington, D.C. Her grave is unmarked, but is beside the grave of her husband.

Besides Bettie Jones Harris, Lucy H. Jones Harris and her husband Richard Harris also had twin girls, Mary Hawkins Harris (1872-1873) (Memorial # 41452070) and Martha Jones “Mattie” Harris (1872-1890)(Memorial # 42942615). Mattie J. Harris is listed in the 1880 Census Record for the household of Richard Harris and his second wife, Lucy H. Jones Harris. Their twin daughters are buried near them in Oakwood Cemetery in Raleigh.
