Lydia Cobb was a part of a loyal and patriotic family. Lydia was the daughter of James Leonard and his wife Hannah (Walley) Stone Leonard.

Lydia married Captain Thomas Cobb about 1737. Thomas was the commander of a Taunton Company in the French and Indian War of 1754.

Thomas and Lydia had seven children. Their son, David (September 14, 1748 – April 17, 1830), was an General and aide to George Washington during the Revolutionary War. Their daughter Sally married Robert Treat Paine, who was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence.

Lydia "was a woman of sound character, and of such worth that the Taunton Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution honor her memory in taking her name for their chapter... the Lydia Cobb Chapter" - from Fanny Leonard Koster's book cited below.
