Biography
Lydia Bartlett, daughter of Robert Bartlett (abt.1603-1676) was born in Plymouth, Plymouth Colony, 8 Jun 1648.[1][2] Roberts wife, mother of Lydia, was Mary (Warren) Bartlett (abt.1610-1683) daughter of Mayflower passenger Richard Warren (abt.1578-1628)[1]
Marriage
Lydia married James Barnaby before 14 Jun 1670 (deed) probably in Plymouth.[1] James died before 30 Oct 1677,[1] at which time the court disposed the estate of James Barnabey, deceased. The record mentions that the widow Lydia is about to marry John Nelson of Plymouth and provides for bringing up two children. Lydia's brothers, Benjamin and Joseph Bartlett were overseers. His inventory was taken 30 Oct 1677.[1]
Lydia married second John Nelson after 30 Oct 1677.[1][3] John, son of William and Martha (Ford) Nelson was born in Plymouth about 1644. He married first 28 Nov 1667 Sarah Wood. They had children Mehetabel, Martha nd John. After Lydia's death he married a third time to Patience Morton, 4 May 1693, and had by Patience daughters Liddiah and Sarah.[1] John Nelson's will dated 29 April 1697 named son Samuel; daughter Mehetable Dotey and son-in-law John Dotey; daughter Joanna (under age); Anne Tilson (no relationship stated); and his wife Patience.
Death
Lydia (Bartlett) (Barnaby) Nelson died in Plymouth 11 Sep 1691.[1]
Children
James Barnaby b. about 167o (based on age at death). James chose his father-in-law [step-father] John Nelson as guardian of his estate Oct 1684.[1]
Stephen Barnaby was born before Dec 1674 (he would have been 14 or older when he chose a guardian.) Dec 1688 Stephen Barnabe of Plymouth chose Isaac Cushman and John Churchell as guardians. James and Stephen Barnaby sold land 4 Mar 1695/6 to Ephraim Morton. The land had belonged to their grandfather Robert Bartlett, deceased, and been given to them by their father James Barnabey, late of Plimouth.[1]
Samuel Nelson. 22 Jun 1697 Samuel Nelson, son of John, late of Plimouth chose William Shurtleff and Nathaniel Wood as guardians.[1]
Joanna Nelson. 22 Dec 1698 William Nelson of Middleborough and James Barnabe of Plymouth were appointed as guardians of Joanna Nelson, daughter of John of Plymouth.
Samuel Nelson b. 4 July 1683. He chose William Shurtleff and Nathaniel Wood as guardians 22 June 1697.[1]
Joanna Nelson bpt 29 Mar 1686; died before the birth of the 2nd Joanna[1]
Joanna Nelson b. 9 May 1689; living 22 Dec 1698, when the court appointed William Nelson of Middleborough and James Barnabe of Plymouth to be guardians of her estate.[1]
