She was the daughter of a neighboring king, so hers was a political marriage. She lived in Hebron, in King David's harem in Jerusalem. She bore David's third son Absalom, an exceptionally handsome boy, and Tamar, noted for her beauty.

Maacah disappears from the story, but her granddaughter would become the wife of Solomon's son Rehoboam Solomon was born to David's latest and favorite wife Bathsheba
