Translation: Marcian was originally from Dalmatia and ruled it practically independently in the period 454-468. He was a friend of the military leader Aetius, who was killed in 454, and Marcian showed respect and obedience to the emperor. In 468 he was summoned to defend Siscilia, but was brutally and treacherously killed there.

Notes:

  • Not known, not sure and not confirmed did he was a Illyrian or Thracian (?).
