About Mary Smith

Mary Burks – born c.1706 in Albemarle County, Virginia and died c.1777 in Chesterfield County, Virginia. She married Obadiah Smith, Jr. in Goochland County, Virginia on April 23, 1744. Her husband was one of the executors of her father’s will.

To the best of my knowledge her middle name was NOT Peartree. Mary Peartree Burks was her niece, daughter of Samuel Burks II.

Husband Obadiah was born c.1700 in Virginia, the son of Luke Smith and Arabella Gromarrin. His mother was descended from a Huguenot family. Obadiah’s will can be found in Chesterfield County, Va. Wills 1774-1802. The will is dated January 2, 1777. Wife Mary is not mentioned, so we assume she died before then.
