Mary (Greene) Sweet immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).
MARY GREENE the daughter of John Greene ...and mother Joanna Tattershall ...was baptized (as were all the children of John Greene, surgeon) at St. Thomas's Church, Salisbury, England, May 19, 1633. [1] She came to New England with her parents in 1635.[2]

She came to New England with her parents in 1635.
MARY GREEN & JAMES SWEET were married on January 17, 1654 in Providence, RI.[2]
Mary died 6 (other sources say 8) NOV 1686 in North Kingston, Naragannset (nka Washington) County, Rhode Island, English Colony (now USA).
She was buried 10 NOV 1686 in Washington County, Rhode Island Colony.
She was the beginning of the line of the "bone-setting" Sweets, using techniques that she learned from her father who was a surgeon, a line which continued for several generations.[3]
Death: 8 NOV 1686 in Warwick, Providence (nka Kent) County, RI.
Burial: 9 NOV 1686 Greene Graveyard (private), Warwick, Providence (now Kent) County, RI.
Note :1877 Dr. Henry E. Turner, MD, claims MARY married JOHN SWEET and is the progenetrix of 'the well known race of bonesetters'.

<b>Children by First Marriage
</b> Philip Sweet, of Coweset and Providence, born July 15, 1655. His father, November 8, 1686, deeded to his "eldest son Philip of Prudence Island, all right of lands in Providence, as my father John Sweet deceased, was one of the first purchasers thereof." Philip married Elizabeth __. They gave by deed, April 8, 1693, one half of farm at Coweset to Thomas Remington of Prudence.

James Sweet, born May 8, 1657, of Prudence Island. He married Mary Pearce of Portsmouth. She was widow of Robert Hill and had no children by second marriage. James received, November 8, 1686, deed of land in Mashantatuck from his father.

Mary Sweet, born February 2, 1660, married Enoch Place, son of Enoch and Sarah Place of Kingstown. He died 1703; his wife, 1746. Had daughter, Mary, born October 16, 1697.

(Captain) Benoni Sweet of Kingstown, bom March 28, 1662, also received deed of land in Mashantatuck from his father, November 8, 1686. He married Elizabeth __. He died at N. Kingstown, July 19, 1751, in his ninetieth year.

Valentine Sweet, born February 14, 1665, of Kingstown, also received land from his father in Mashantatuck, November 8, 1686.

Samuel Sweet, born November i, 1667, of Prudence Island.

Jeremiah Sweet, born January 6, 1669. p,

Renewed Sweet, born July 16, 1671, married John Gereardy of Warwick, who was of Dutch parentage. They had daughters, Mary and Phillis, who married Jeremiah and John Smith of Kingstown, R. I.; and a son, John, who married (2) Deliverance Corp, widow of John Corp.

Sylvester Sweet, born March i, 1674, of Prudence Island, married Sarah Tew, daughter of Deputy-Governor Henry Tew. They had a son, Sylvester, born 1719, who married Mary Johnson. (From Family Records.)

8. MARY GREENE (John [1]%29 was baptized (aswere all the children of John Greene, surgeon) at St. Thomas Church, Salisbury, England, May 19, 1633. She came to New England with her parents in 1635. She married, about 1654, James Sweet, probably born in Wales, 1622, came to America about 1630 with his parents, was a resident of Portsmouth, 1681; Coweset, Warwick, 1683, and Kingstown, 1686. He was progenitor of the celebrated natural "bone-setters" who bore that name, and was the son of John and Mary Sweet, who, as "widow of John," who died at their home in Salem, Mass., in 1637, was assigned land in Providence, R.I., in 1637, she having removed there soon after her husband's death. In 1638 she married (2) Rev. Ezekiel Holliman of Warwick, R.I., one of the original purchasers. James Sweet was made freeman, 1655, and settled on Ridge Hill, N. Kingstown; he was commissioner from Warwick, 1653-58-59; juryman, 1656. In 1660 (September 30th), he sold the lot granted him in Waraick with the house thereon (afterwards known as "Stone Castle") to Thomas Greene [2] (John [1]). He was three times married, and died in 1695 in the seventy-third year of his age.

40. PHILLIP SWEET, of Coweset and providence, born July 15, 1655. His father, November 8, 1686, deeded to his "eldest son Phillip of Prudence Island, all right of lands in Providence, as my father John Sweet deceased, was one of the first purchasers therof." Phillip married Elizabeth ____. They gave by deed, April 8, 1693, one half of farm at Coweset to Thomas Remington of Prudence.
41. JAMES SWEET, born May 8, 1657, of Prudence Island. He married Mary Pearce of Portsmouth. She was widow of Robert Hill and had no children by second marriage. James received, November 8, 1686, deed of land in Mashantatuck from his father.
42. MARY SWEET, born February 2, 1660, married Enoch Place, son of Enoch and Sarah Place of Kingstown. He died 1703; his wife 1746. Had daughter, Mary, born October 16, 1697.
43. (Captain) BENONI SWEET of kingstown, born March 28, 1662, also received deed of land in Mashantatuck from his father, November 8, 1686. He married Elizabeth ____. He died at N. Kingstown, July 19, 1751, in his ninetieth year.
44. VALENTINE SWEET, born February 14, 1665, of Kingstown, also received land from his father in Mashantatuck, November 8, 1686.
45. SAMUEL SWEET,born November 1, 1667, of Prudence Island.
46. JEREMIAH SWEET, born January 6, 1669.
47. RENEWED SWEET, born July 16, 1671, married John Gereardy of Warwick, who was of Dutch parentage. They had daughters, Mary and Phillis, who married Jeremiah and John Smith of Kingstown, R.I.; and a son, John, who married (2) Deliverance Corp, widow of John Corp.
48. SYLVESTER SWEET, born March 1, 1674, of Prudence Island, married Sarali Tew; daughter of Deputy-Governor Henry Tew. They had a son, Sylvester, born 1719, who married Mary Johnson. (From Family Records.)
