I am the Troyer that started it all in the U.S. and parts of Canada. I came over from Switzerland and settled in the first Amish community in PA around 1750.
The Troyer name is French in origin. Michael came to the US in 1727 and settled in Summerset County, PA. His wife was Magdelena Mast and they had 5 sons: Michael, Andrew, Abraham, Joseph and David.
No headstone remains in Cemetery.
Michael lived along what was once known as the Old Amish Lane which no longer exists.

Will of Michael Troyer, Sr.:
In the name of God amen, I Michael Treyer living in Brothers Valley Somerset County and State of Pennsylvania (being of sound mind and understanding) make my last will and testament this 18th day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and three. Of all my estate as follows to wit, first, shall my executors bury my body the earth in a Christian manner, secondly I commit my soul into the hands of God who gave it. Thirdly is it my will that all my just debts be paid. Fourthly I bequeath to my surviving widow all my moveable estate besides the money that I am to get from my sister. And David Miller must gave her demand yearly as long as she lives, ten bushels of wheat, six bushels of rye, ten bushels of oats, two bushels of indian corn, ten bushels of buttates, fifteen pounds of flax, thirty-five pounds of sugar, and to keep on horse, one cow and two sheep, four pound of money one hundred waight of hogsmeat to chop the firewood and to hall it to the house for her and to give her the fourth part of apples. And after her death shall the remainder be equally divided amongst my children. Fourthly I bequeath my plantation to David Miller his heirs and assigns if he gaves my widow what is above mentioned. After her death heirs to pay for the place four hundred and fifty pounds, upon installments as follows- one year after her death thirty five pounds in the hands of my executors and so demand yearly till the above sum is paid, which shall be equally divided amongst my children except Barbara she shall only have the half of her share the other half shall be given to her oldest son Abraham Rhoads but if she is no widow then, then the remainder of her children is to have her half share. And as I gave money to sum of my children, is it my will that it shall be a part of their inheritance and them that has yet bought nothing, shall have the first payment or payments till the are all alike. Fiftly I appoint my son Jacob Treyer and my son in law David Miller my executors both living in Somerset County the shall have authority and power to buy and sell to pay debts and demand debts. If it should arise any dispute amongst my children heirs, then the executors are to gave their word for to decide it and as the gave it, it shall be as good as if I had gave it myself and no man shall brake their word or altered it. All the above is to be in power of my executors, one or both are instilled to it, this is my last will, witness my hand and seal the day and year above written.
