Peter was the son of Archie and Peggy (Oxendine) Oxendine. On Oct. 2, 1877, Archie and Peggy Oxendine were among the twenty charter members of Burnt Swamp Baptist church. In January 1881, Burnt Swamp, Reedy Branch, and Magnolia Baptist churches organized the Burnt Swamp Association.

His brothers , William Daniel Oxendine and James B. Oxendine, are buried at Mt. Airy Baptist in Pembroke, NC. Another brother, John Nelson Oxendine, is buried at the Oxendine Cemetery on Oak Grove Church Road in Lumberton, NC.

Peter Oxendine was the second husband of Charity Sampson Oxendine. After Charity's death, Peter married Lucy Bell Dial.

The following was taken from the Dec. 22, 1955 edition of THE ROBESONIAN:

Peter Oxendine, 81, of Pembroke, died early Wednesday morning in Robeson County Memorial hospital.

Funeral service will be conducted in Bear Swamp Baptist church at 2 p.m. Sunday by Rev. T. M. Swett, assisted by Rev. L. W. Jacobs. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Surviving are the widow, Mrs. Lucy B. Oxendine, and a sister, Mrs. Emmaline Chavis of Pembroke.
