William Daniel was the son of Archibald and Peggy (Oxendine) Oxendine. On Oct. 2, 1877, Archie and Peggy Oxendine were among the twenty charter members of Burnt Swamp Baptist church. In January 1881, Burnt Swamp, Reedy Branch, and Magnolia Baptist churches organized the Burnt Swamp Association.
His brother, James B. Oxendine, is also buried at Mt. Airy. Another brother, John Nelson Oxendine, is buried at the Oxendine Cemetery on Oak Grove Church Road in Lumberton, NC.
He married Frances E. Wilkins on Sep. 27, 1893 in the Burnt Swamp section of Robeson county, North Carolina. He remarried after her death, but is buried beside Frances.

Prominent Indian Educator and Religious Leader Succumbs to Long Illness--Rites Tuesday.
Willian Daniel Oxendine, 72-year-old Indian filling station operator and trustee of Indian Normal school at Pembroke, died yesterday afternoon at his home near Mt. Airy church, Pembroke, R. 1, after 6 months serious illness.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Mt. Airy Baptist church with burial in the church cemetery.
Prominent in educational and religious circles among members of his race. Oxendine was a former school teacher for 15 years until about 30 years ago, was superintendent of Mt. Airy Sunday school from the time ot the church's organization in 1915 until failure of health prevented his furter service, was moderator of the Burnt Swamp Baptist association for several years until last October, and formerly was clerk of the Burnt Swamp Baptist union.
Surviving are his widow and 2 children, George W. and Lucy Jane Oxendine; 8 children by a former marriage, C. E., B. W., D. O., William X. and G. B. Oxendine, Mmes, C. E. Locklear, Lonnie Locklear and J. W. Wilkins; one brother, Peter Oxendine; 2 sisters, Mmes. Christian Oxendine and Dokie Chavis.
