The historic building now known as "Subletts Tavern" is on Pierre Faure's original patent. It appears that his son Daniel inherited it. Here is a description:
Subletts Tavern (72-42) is located on the north side of Huguenot Trail in Subletts. Probably built in the mid-eighteenth century as a residence, the original part of the structure exists today with several nineteenth-century additions. The original portion consists of a one-and-one-half-story frame building covered with beaded weatherboard. The gabled roof with wood shingles is punctuated with gabled dormers and a box cornice with a decorative profile. A large end chimney is constructed of brick with a stepped base, double corbelled shoulders and a corbelled cap. According to the WPA information on Subletts, the once private dwelling most likely operated as a tavern from 1816-1844, the years form which William Sublett was consecutively issued tavern licenses.
Eventually, during the mid-nineteenth century, a two-story, two-bay wing was erected to the west of the structure and connected to it by a one-and-one- half-story hyphen. The WPA information indicates that this two-story addition served as a post office for over 100 years. At the rear of the house is a one-story kitchen addition. The entire complex has been skillfully renovated and uses original building materials where possible, reproduction materials when not.
Pierre Faure I also known as Peter Ford came to Virginia on the ship "Le Nasseau" on March 5, 1701. It was the 4th of the Huguenot ships to arrive from England. The ship was named in honor of the House of Orange with Captain Tegain in charge. It arrived in York River on Mar. 5, 1701. Only 23 persons went upriver to Manakin Town, Va. This location was originally owned by the Monocan Indians who were a warlike tribe on the James River.
Pierre (Peter)Faure was born 1680 in St. Severe, Berry Province, Francethe son of Daniel Isaac and Mary Ann Chastain Faure. He married there in 1700 Mary Elizabeth Agee the daughter of Antoine Francois and Judith Chastain Agee. They immigrated to Manakintown in April 1700 then Henrico now located in Goochland County, Virginia.
