Grave inscription reads:-

Translation:-

The grave of

A man of valour and doer of mighty deeds, our master, teacher and Rabbi, The great Gaon, honoured holiness of his glorious name

Chaim Yosef Pollak of blessed memory
Av Beit Din of our congregation for 51 years and author of “Makor Chaim”
He died on Wednesday, the second day of Tevet, last night of Chanukah, 5640

O Torah gird sackcloth and lament for the righteous mas is gathered in

Joseph is not, Chaim has gone, R. Yosef the faithful shepherd

Joseph from whose mouth we lived, the candle of Israel

His source is “The source of Life”, His foundation is in the highest mountains

His hands are great for him in explaining the scripture, Midrash and Gemara

And from near and far he collected students

The great scribe, great in the Talmud erudite and sharp

He opened his mouth with wisdom, and no secret escaped him

The glory of our generation, the crown of our heads, the teacher of our community

Where is he who counts? Where is he who weighs? His virtues are without comparison and resemblance

Father of the orphans, a refuge and a tower for the poor

The crown has been taken from us, the true genius

Alas, the pious man, alas, the humble man, of the students of Hillel, the Babylonian

His congregation lamented, his wife wailed, and his sons go bowed down

But Chaim Yosef did not die, Yosef is still alive

For his memory is forever and his righteousness is for generations and generations.
