About Rachel Hamilton

"Pioneer women were resilient and determined individuals. Rachel Hamilton (née Lennard) was eight months pregnant when the family boarded the Ocean Mail bound for New Zealand. She had just nursed her children through a measles epidemic and was about to undertake a rigorous 100-day shipboard journey during which she would give birth. Rachel faced countless challenges when they arrived in Katikati, from setting up a new home from scratch and maintaining it, meeting the basic needs and health and wellbeing of her family, and physically working the new land in an alien environment far from home. Rachel was my second great grandmother – Debbie McCauley." Read the full biography by Debbie McCauley at this link: https://debbiemccauleyauthor.wordpress.com/biographies/rachel-hamil...
