About John Hamilton

"Hamilton, John, 1866-1902 (Jack) Born at Martray in Ballygawley, County Tyrone, Northern Ireland in 1866, John was aged nine when he arrived in New Zealand on board the Ocean Mail in 1875. On 22 October 1888 he was charged with entering the house of John McCauley jnr and taking a £1 note ½ sovereign, one stick of tobacco and a box of matches for which he was later acquitted. John suffered from pleurisy for 12 days prior to his death at Katikati on 22 February 1902. He was buried in Katikati Cemetery."
