Married twice. Firstly to Margarett "Tots" Johnson and had dau Anita and son "Bucky." They divorced.

Secondly to Nellie Knox and had son Terry Richard, dau Brenda Sue, son Ted A. "Tab," and son Ronnie. Possibly they married 23 Nov 1957.

Ralph Dempsey Black, 81, died Dec. 14, 2002, in Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Black was born in Union on April 10, 1921, a son of the late William Walker Black and Josie (Rochester) Black. He was a Baptist and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army. Mr. Black was retired from United Merchants, Union Plant.

Mr. Black was predeceased by a son: Warren Ralph "Bucky" Black; a sister: Mary (Black) Davis; and five brothers: Noel Black, Ed Black, Claude Black, Dewey Black, and Louis "Louie" Black.

Mr. Black was survived two daughters: Anita (Black) Smith and Sue Black, both of Union, SC; two sons: Ronnie Black of Georgia and Tab Black of Spartanburg, SC; a sister: Virginia (Black) Carter of Union; three brothers: Rev. Frank Black of Anderson, SC, Ray Black of Gaffney, SC, and Dean Black of California; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held in the Union Memorial Gardens, as conducted by the Reverend Warren Jones. The family received friends at the cemetery following the service. Memorials may be made to Westside Baptist Church of 105 Lawson Avenue, Union, SC 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

NOTE: Ralph was listed as the father of a third son, with Nell, by the name of Terry Richard Black... in Nell's obit and by Terry's family... I'm not sure why he was omitted in Ralph's obituary... Terry is linked below.
