About Rebecca Wood

Thomas Weston was in error when he stated in: History of Middleboro Massachusetts, that Rebecca Tupper was the wife of Samuel Wood on page 63. Mayflower Society records prove that Samuel Wood, (1647/8-1718) son of Henry Wood, and Abigail Jenney married Rebecca Morton, daughter of Ephraim Morton.

On page 662, of Weston's book church records prove that Rebecca Tupper, (born 1713), maiden name Bumpas, was the wife of Thomas Tupper. And on page 667, that Rebecca Tupper (born 1743), daughter of Thomas Tupper, married Lemuel Wood. Rebecca Tupper is also listed as the wife of Lemuel Wood in DAR records. (This Samuel was Lemuel's great uncle.) Samuel Wood, son of Henry, and brother of Abiel Wood, was 70 years old when he died on February 3, 1718, as seen on page 649, and Rebecca Wood, married Samuel Wood before 1679, and she died in 1718 at the age of 67, as seen on page 651, of the same text. From these descriptions, Rebecca Tupper could not have married Samuel Wood. In the Preface of his book, Weston admits that there are errors. This is one of them.

Rebeckah was a daughter of Ephraim Morton and Ann Cooper.

Rebeckah married Samuel Wood. The marriage probably took place before 1679. They had children:
Ephraim - Jan 1679
Rebecca - 1682
Samuel Jr - about 1684
Anne - 20 January 1687
Jabez - 1690

Rebeckah united with the First Church on March 27, 1716.

Rebeckah died 7 days after her husband.

NOTE the book "History of the Town of Middleboro, Masschusetts" incorrectly states that Rebeckah's maiden name was TUPPER. The Daughters of the Revolutionary War documents in their linage books that Rebecca Tupper married Lemuel Wood.
